Shufersal Broadens Coffee Portfolio Amid Rising Prices

By Drooid · · How we work

Expansion of Coffee Offerings

Shufersal, Israel’s largest supermarket chain, announced the addition of new coffee brands, granulated coffee, and Nespresso-compatible capsules to its shelves. The lineup now includes about 18 brands spanning several categories and price points. New items feature ARNESTO granulated coffee and capsules sold under the Vero, ARNESTO, and Caffe Dellucci labels, complementing earlier introductions such as Nagi Turkish coffee and Monro instant coffee. The retailer emphasizes that the capsules are designed for Nespresso-type machines, though specific machine models were not detailed.

Market Context and Price Trends

The rollout comes as coffee prices have climbed across Israeli retailers. A June analysis in *The Jerusalem Post*, citing an Institute for Retail Research survey, reported a 14.4 % rise in the average price of coffee products between June 2025 and June 2026. A separate study from Tel Aviv University, also reported by the Post in October, found that the price of a 200-gram jar of Taster’s Choice coffee increased from NIS 31.40 to NIS 39.60 between September 2022 and August 2026—a 26.1 % jump. These upward trends provide the backdrop for Shufersal’s effort to offer “quality alternatives at competitive prices.”

Official Statement

“Real competition in the food and retail market is measured by the price, quality, and variety the Israeli consumer receives,” — Tom Yonai, Shufersal Group's vice president of communications and innovation

Product Details and Competitive Landscape

Shufersal’s expansion includes both imported and locally produced coffees; the Nagi Turkish line is manufactured in Israel. The move mirrors broader retailer strategies: when Carrefour entered the Israeli market in May 2023, it also introduced its own coffee capsules alongside other private-label goods. Shufersal did not disclose shelf prices, package sizes, or direct price comparisons with rival products.

Implications for Consumers

By increasing brand variety and introducing direct imports, Shufersal aims to give shoppers more choice while attempting to temper the impact of rising coffee costs. The emphasis on price, quality, and variety reflects the chain’s stated goal of fostering “real competition” in the food and retail sector.
