History

Historical Context

In 1933, Adolf Hitler appointed Martin Bormann as head of the Nazi Party Chancellery, consolidating power and accelerating extremist policies. Bormann, a former Nazi Party secretary, controlled access to Hitler and oversaw a staff of roughly 1,200 officials, shaping daily directives. Today's reports that Donald Trump may replace chief of staff Susie Wiles with Stephen Miller echo Hitler’s 1933 staffing shift, raising alarms about extremist influence within the White House. Such appointments historically enabled rapid policy radicalization, suggesting that a Miller-led staff could steer U.S. governance toward authoritarian practices and institutional erosion.
