History

Historical Context

In 1995 Arsenal hired French manager Arsène Wenger, whose work-permit approval let the club finish third, just two points behind champions Blackburn Rovers. His success opened the Premier League to foreign coaches, a trend UEFA now reinforces as clubs like Liverpool scout talent beyond borders. Today Iñigo Pérez, denied a Bournemouth permit, leads Rayo Vallecano to its first European spot.
