History

Historical Context

In February–March 1995 Maharashtra’s assembly election gave the Shiv Sena–BJP Mahayuti a majority, ending Congress rule and installing Manohar Joshi as chief minister. That shift showed how victories in local cooperatives could affect state-level power. Today the Kolhapur Gokul Milk Union contest pits Congress leader Satej Patil’s Samvichari Aghadi against the Mahayuti coalition, echoing the 1995 realignment.
