History

Historical Context

The June 17 1972 Watergate break-in, uncovered by Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, triggered the 1973 Senate Watergate hearings and a 1974 Supreme Court order that forced President Richard Nixon to release Oval Office tapes, leading to his August 9 1974 resignation. Those reforms, including the Presidential Records Act, inspire activists urging the Justice Department to release Jeffrey Epstein’s sealed files.
