History

Historical Context

Mike Ditka’s 1985 Chicago Bears used the 46 defense to post a 15-1 record, allow only 198 points and win Super Bowl XX 46–10, setting a then-record seven sacks in the game. The 2026 Bears’ run-stopper unit, led by Kyro Gordon’s three sacks, echoes that blueprint, showing how the 1985 emphasis on pressure reshaped defensive strategy league-wide.
