History

Historical Context

The inaugural Asian Para Games opened in Guangzhou on 12 December 2010, featuring about 2,500 athletes from 45 Asian nations competing in 341 events. Held every four years after the Asian Games, the Games have become the continent’s second-largest multi-sport para event, with the latest edition in Hangzhou, China, 22-28 October 2023. This continuity has expanded training pipelines and heightened calls for greater IPC funding.
