By Drooid · · How we work
Seizure Overview
On September 11, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers intercepted a commercial semi-truck arriving in Windsor, Ontario, from Detroit. After a secondary examination and the use of a detector dog, officers seized 127 kg (279.987 lb) of suspected cocaine from the trailer. The haul, described as “nearly 280 pounds,” represents one of the largest drug interceptions at the international crossing in recent months.
Individuals Charged
Two Ontario residents were detained in connection with the shipment: Vasyl Galychyn, 61, and Anton Chernyshov, 41. Both men have been charged with importation of cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. Their case is pending before the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor.
Legal Process
The seized cocaine was transferred by CBSA officers to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for further investigation. The charges filed against Galychyn and Chernyshov fall under Canadian federal drug-trafficking statutes, and the defendants will face trial in the provincial court system. No further details on bail or trial dates have been released.
Enforcement Context
CBSA officials note that the Southern Ontario Region has confiscated 1.67 metric tonnes of cocaine so far this year—approximately 3,681 lb.
Agency Statement
Michael Prosia, Regional Director General for the CBSA’s Southern Ontario Region, highlighted the seizure as evidence of the agency’s daily efforts to keep illegal drugs out of Canada and protect Canadian communities. He encouraged the public to report suspicious cross-border activity via the CBSA Border Watch Line (1-888-502-9060) or local police.
