Thirty emergency units responded, including 22 ground ambulances, eight aircraft, and extra Saskatchewan air-ambulance support.
MP Pierre Poilievre thanked seven neighboring fire services for three days of continuous assistance.

History

Historical Context

In 1995 a live-fire drill at the U.S. Marine Corps’ Camp Pendleton sparked a 2,000-acre blaze that killed two Marines, echoing the base’s later 2014 Pulgas Fire and the 2007 California firestorm that burned 972,147 acres. The October 17 2026 exercise at Canada’s CFB Wainwright similarly ignited a brush fire, prompting General Jennie Carignan’s inquiry and, like the 1995 incident, driving both militaries to overhaul fire-prevention training and inter-agency response.
