By Drooid · · How we work

Crime and Investigation

On September 16, 2023, police were called to Vine Lane in Clent at around 3:30 a.m. after a woman reported that she had been taken from Broad Street in Birmingham, driven about 30 minutes, and violently assaulted. Investigators said the attackers hired a silver-grey BMW using a falsified driving licence and identification documents. The victim, a student, was orally raped, forced to perform a sexual act, and sexually assaulted by three men before being abandoned in a remote location. One of the perpetrators filmed the assault on his mobile phone.

Court Outcomes

Worcester Crown Court delivered sentences on October 9:

  • Arjan Purewal, 23, of Wolverhampton Road, Oldbury – convicted of rape, blackmail, perverting the course of justice and possession of an identification document with improper intention; sentenced to eight years and six months in prison.
  • Jaskaran Thandi, 23, of HMP Hewell, Redditch – convicted of aiding and abetting rape and sexual assault; sentenced to six years and four months with an additional two years concurrent for sexual assault.
  • Hassan Jangheer, 23, of Grenville Drive, Smethwick – convicted of aiding and abetting rape and sexual assault; sentenced to six years with two years concurrent for sexual assault.

All three were ordered to pay victim surcharges of £228 each, bringing the combined custodial terms to more than 20 years.
