iOS 27.2 Brings New Features to Six Built-In iPhone Apps

Core Update Overview
Apple is rolling out iOS 27.2 next week, adding a suite of enhancements to six native iPhone applications. The update expands functionality in Messages, Apple TV, FaceTime, Home, Apple Podcasts, and Games, aiming to make everyday tasks more context-aware and streamline media consumption.
Messages: Context-Aware Suggested Actions
The new Suggested Actions feature appears beneath individual messages when the system detects a relevant task. Users can tap to create calendar events, set reminders, add notes, or perform other actions directly from the conversation. Apple also provides a setting that lets users fine-tune which types of suggestions are shown.
Media & Communication Enhancements
- Apple TV Profiles – A profile selection screen now launches when the TV app is opened on iPhone or iPad, letting multiple users keep separate viewing histories and recommendations. The feature can be disabled for a single-user experience.
- FaceTime Dual Capture for Groups – Dual Capture, which streams both front- and rear-camera feeds simultaneously, is extended to Group FaceTime calls. On iPhone 17 and newer models, the flip-camera button activates both cameras by default, offering a richer multi-person video experience.
Home App Automation Additions
Apple introduces two smart-lock automations:
- Lock After Closing – Users can set a timer that automatically locks a door a specified interval after it is closed, rather than after it is unlocked.
- Door Left Open – A separate setting notifies users if a compatible lock remains open beyond a chosen duration, helping prevent security lapses.
Podcasts and Games Improvements
Apple Podcasts gains AI-generated automatic chapters and transcripts, plus a restructured Up Next queue on the Home tab. The queue is now split into New Episodes (latest releases from followed shows) and Continue Playing (in-progress episodes).
The Games app’s Home tab now surfaces recently downloaded titles that have not yet been played, and Apple updates achievement progress and leaderboard scores for easier tracking.
These additions collectively aim to make iOS 27.2 a more intuitive and personalized operating system for iPhone users.
