Above-Normal Temperatures and Dry Weather Expected Across Minnesota This Week

By Drooid · · How we work

Warm Upper-Level Ridge Drives Above-Normal Temperatures

A broad upper-level ridge of high pressure is forecast to build across the central United States mid-week. The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts describes the pattern as an “omega block,” a configuration that typically produces warm, dry conditions in the interior of the country while keeping the coasts cooler and stormier.

Forecasted Temperatures and Precipitation

The National Weather Service projects Monday’s daytime highs in the 60s, at least 5 to 10 °F above the climatological norm. Overnight lows are expected to fall into the 30s and 40s. Tuesday will see a modest warm-up, with highs climbing into the upper 60s and isolated low-70s in southwestern Minnesota. By Wednesday, temperatures are forecast to reach the 70s statewide, and the ridge should keep the region mostly dry through Thursday. A cool front is expected to arrive Saturday night or Sunday, bringing the next chance for measurable rain. The forecast calls for only a few showers on Friday in western Minnesota and a brief chance of showers on Saturday; Sunday should return to patchy sunshine with mid-60s temperatures, still above the average high of 57 °F.

Atmospheric Pattern Behind the Warmth

The omega-block pattern channels cooler, storm-laden air toward the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, allowing warm air to surge northward over the Midwest. This setup explains why southern Minnesota could see highs near 70 °F early in the week and potentially approach 80 °F later in the week, according to the National Weather Service.

Expected Shift Toward Cooler, Drier Conditions

The approaching cool front on Saturday night is projected to lower temperatures and provide the first substantive rain chance for most of the state. After the front passes, the forecast calls for a return to milder overnight lows in the 30s and 40s, with daytime highs dropping back toward the mid-60s.

Outlook for the End of the Week

Overall, the week will be characterized by abundant sunshine, light southeast winds of about 5 mph, and temperatures consistently above normal. The brief cool-front passage late in the week offers the only notable interruption to the warm, dry spell.
