History

Historical Context

In 1992 the Steelers ended a slump by hiring 35-year-old Bill Cowher, keeping alive a pattern of hiring coaches in their 30s that started with Joe Bach in 1935. Cowher posted an 11-5 debut and secured playoff spots in each of his first six seasons—a rarity matched only by Paul Brown—while Dallas Cowboys, whose last Super Bowl win came in the 1995 season, stay title-less.
