History

Historical Context

In September 1978 President Jimmy Carter brought Anwar Sadat and Menachem Begin to Camp David, creating frameworks that yielded the 1979 Egypt-Israel peace treaty. The accords fractured Arab unity, prompted Egypt’s Arab League suspension, and showed how a U.S. president could reshape regional diplomacy. In October 2026 former President Donald Trump endorsed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Truth Social, echoing Carter’s role in Israeli elections during the Israel-Gaza war.
