History

Historical Context

The 26/11 attacks on 26-29 November 2008, in which Lashkar-e-Taiba gunmen killed 166 civilians, spurred India to create the National Investigation Agency in 2009 and launch the Force One anti-terror unit. Two decades later, Tiger Shroff’s October 2024 shooting in Mumbai’s Juhu area drew condemnation from Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, reviving calls for tighter gun control and surveillance rooted in those post-2008 reforms.
