History

Historical Context

During the 2004 Indian general election, the Election Commission logged Sonia Gandhi’s eight foreign trips costing about $1.2 million, sparking criticism of double standards. That same year, the United States held its presidential election, where Republicans expanded their congressional majorities, illustrating how election cycles worldwide intensify scrutiny of leaders’ travel and finances. BJP MP RP Singh now cites Rahul Gandhi’s Vietnam video.
