History

Historical Context

Colt McCoy entered the 2009 season as Texas’ four-year starter, leading the Longhorns to a 12-0 regular season, a Big 12 title and a third-place Heisman finish, while coach Mack Brown’s tenure produced a 45-8 record. McCoy’s season-ending injury that year mirrored earlier setbacks that dropped Texas in the rankings, highlighting how losing a quarterback can quickly hurt conference standing.
