JustWatch Launches Its Own Streaming Platform, JustWatch TV

By Drooid · · How we work

Core Launch and Service Offering

JustWatch, the 12-year-old company known for its streaming-guide search engine used by roughly 50 million users, has introduced a direct-to-consumer streaming service called JustWatch TV. The platform aggregates content from 30 partner studios and distributors and will be accessible through the existing JustWatch apps and website in 12 markets, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand.

Background and Content Lineup

The JustWatch Group first announced its intention to move into streaming last month, citing partnerships with companies such as Paramount, New Regency, Fremantle, Bleecker Street, Vortex Media, Cineverse (U.S.), LEONINE Studios (Germany), SND (France), and Altitude (U.K.). The new service will feature a mix of older titles, indie films, and shows, reflecting a strategy similar to other low-cost platforms that prioritize catalog depth over premium new releases.

Pricing Structure and Features

JustWatch TV will be offered in a free, ad-supported tier and a paid “Plus” tier priced at $3.99 per month (or $49.99 for a lifetime subscription). The Plus tier promises more than 300 ad-free titles in the U.S., advanced filtering, and the ability to hide previously watched or disliked items. A movie-rental store will launch initially in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, with discounts of 10 % for paid subscribers. The free tier competes with services like Tubi and Plex, while the Plus tier targets low-cost ad-free options such as Roku’s $2.99-per-month offering.

Strategic Rationale

Quentin Carbonell, senior vice president of Global Content Acquisitions and Strategy at JustWatch, explained that the move aims to leverage the company’s extensive audience data by providing a hub where users can both discover and watch content. He framed the launch as a natural extension of JustWatch’s mission to support the broader entertainment ecosystem, from big-screen releases to streaming platforms.

Anticipated Impact

By integrating streaming directly into its guide, JustWatch hopes to grow its user base while continuing to direct traffic to partner services. The dual-tier model and user-driven content requests are designed to differentiate the platform in a crowded market and generate additional data insights for studios and advertisers.
