History

Historical Context

The Feb 26 1993 World Trade Center bombing, carried out by Ramzi Yousef, killed six and injured over 1,000, prompting the Port Authority to tighten vehicle checks and evacuation plans that later shaped the 9/11 response. That legacy of infrastructure vulnerability resurfaced when a Con Edison worker was shot on the George Washington Bridge, leading Governor Kathy Hochul to allocate $10 million for upgraded cameras and rapid-response teams.
