History

Historical Context

After Japan’s 1945 surrender, SCAP chief Douglas MacArthur replaced the Meiji Constitution with a new charter that took effect on 3 May 1947, guaranteeing equality and enshrining 103 articles. The document, signed by Emperor Hirohito, ended legal discrimination and gave women the vote. RGG Studio’s game *Stranger Than Heaven* places mixed-heritage hustler Makoto Daito in 1915 Kokura and 1960s Shinjuku, echoing those post-war reforms.
