History

Historical Context

The 21 October 1966 collapse of NCB’s Tip 7 at Aberfan killed 144 people and sparked a £1.75 million disaster fund and later safety reforms. In 1979 Britain and Oman signed a defence pact that placed 200 RAF staff at Duqm. Today King Charles III and Sultan Haitham’s joint commemorations link the tragedy’s legacy to enduring UK-Oman security cooperation.
