History

Historical Context

After Commissioner Roger Goodell introduced a personal-conduct policy in April 2007—first applied to Pacman Jones and Chris Henry—the league tightened its rules following Ray Rice’s August 2014 domestic-violence scandal, expanding bans to six games. In October 2024, the Titans released defensive tackle Jordan Elliott, violating the NFL’s zero-tolerance gun policy despite his $8 million contract, illustrating the policy’s lasting impact.
