History

Historical Context

In the 2008 first-Test at Johannesburg, South Africa enforced the follow-on against Australia and secured a ten-wicket victory. Australia were dismissed for 151 runs while South Africa posted 417/5, a 266-run lead highlighted by Jacques Kallis’s 115. The 2024 match mirrors that drama, with Marco Jansen’s 5-33 and Temba Bavuma’s 179 rescuing South Africa after 110-6, echoing the 2008 comeback. Such repeat turnarounds reinforce South Africa’s reputation for resilient test performances, prompting analysts to anticipate further dominance in upcoming series.
