History

Historical Context

The Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1971, initially honoring ten local athletes and coaches for lifetime achievements. By 2020, the Hall had inducted over 350 individuals, including Olympian decathlete Tom Peters and NFL star John Elway. Today's ceremony mirrors that tradition, as former Buffaloes running back Bobby Purify, marathon champion Lisa Rainsberger, and soccer veteran Lou Sagastume join the 2026 inductees. U.S. Figure Skating’s receipt of the Pikes Peak Award, praised by CEO Matt Farrell, underscores the Hall’s role in promoting Colorado’s diverse athletic legacy.
