Texas Mailers Claiming Trans Rights Traced to a Wyoming LLC, Prompting Investigation and Political Outcry

Texas Mailers Linked to a Wyoming LLC Spark Controversy

Pamphlets presented as resources from the Texas Transgender Student Union were mailed to households across Texas at the start of early voting for the midterm election. The materials encouraged minors to seek “safe adults,” contact advocacy groups, and even consider emancipation without parental involvement. A review of state business filings by the Texas Tribune identified the Texas Transgender Student Union as a limited-liability company created in early September in Wyoming, with a Houston-area post-office box listed as its mailing address. All hyperlinks in the pamphlet directed readers to the Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT).

Official Responses and Investigation

TENT issued a cease-and-desist letter to two digital-messaging firms that had distributed related texts offering guidance on gender-affirming care and bathroom use. Texas Rep. Jeff Leach wrote to the state attorney general, requesting an inquiry into whether TENT had violated state law by “circumventing and violating” legal requirements. The National Republican Congressional Committee’s past payments of $57,300 to mail-tracking company SnailWorks for “list rental” were disclosed through Federal Election Commission records, linking the firm to political mail distribution. SnailWorks did not comment on the inquiry.

Political Criticism and Public Backlash

Republican congressional candidate Jon Bonck denounced the mailer as “disgusting and evil,” adding that “the radical left is trying to brainwash Texan children and unravel the basic framework of our society.” He argued that the pamphlet’s content was a deliberate ploy to rally conservative voters in a midterm cycle where Democratic candidates are polling unusually strongly. The backlash extended beyond TENT; Preservation Austin, a historic-preservation nonprofit, received numerous misdirected calls after its phone number was mistakenly associated with the mailer on social media. The organization clarified it has no connection to the materials.
