History

Historical Context

After the 1947 UN partition sparked the Arab-Israeli war, successive accords—Egypt’s 1979 treaty and the 1993 Oslo accords—paved the way for the October 1994 Israel-Jordan peace treaty signed by President Bill Clinton, King Hussein and Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. AIPAC’s lobbying secured $400 million U.S. aid for Jordan and $1.2 million PAC contributions, a model it now abandons for grassroots spending.
