History

Historical Context

The August 2008 Russo-Georgian war marked the first post-Soviet use of Russian forces against an independent state, with Russian jets striking Tbilisi and creating at least 45 craters near the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. That conflict exposed NATO’s delayed warning and strained U.S.–Georgia ties, a pattern echoed in Russia’s October 19 2026 missile-drone barrage on Kyiv, which saw dozens of ballistic missiles and hundreds of drones launched.
