History

Historical Context

The 1993 Bombay bombings, orchestrated by Dawood Ibrahim’s D-Company in March 1993, detonated twelve explosives, killing 257 people and injuring over 1,000 civilians across the city. Following the attacks, Mumbai Police, under Commissioner Rakesh Maria, seized 1,200 firearms and arrested 150 suspects, prompting the 1995 Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act. Today's shooting of actor Tiger Shroff in Juhu mirrors that era’s gang-driven violence, with Lawrence Bishnoi’s network and Anil Pandit paying Rs 75,000 to gunmen. The legacy of the 1993 crackdown pressures authorities to strengthen anti-gang legislation, aiming to deter future high-profile attacks across Maharashtra.
