History

Historical Context

In March 2003, the United States launched the Iraq invasion, with Secretary Rumsfeld coining the phrase “Mother of All Bombs” to describe the campaign’s massive firepower. That operation deployed the GBU-43/B MOAB, a 10-tonne bomb carrying roughly 8.5 tonnes of high-explosive, marking the largest conventional ordnance used by America. Today, IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebi claims Iran’s missile stockpile rose 50 % since the June 2025 war with Israel, while former President Donald Trump threatens to unleash the same MOAB against Tehran’s nuclear sites. The echo of 2003’s unprecedented bombing underscores how historic displays of overwhelming force can intensify regional arms races and compel diplomatic brinkmanship.
