iPhone Duo Launch: Giant Displays and Early Queues at Apple’s Fifth Avenue Store
By Drooid · · How we work
Launch Preparations and Giant Displays
Apple’s flagship Fifth Avenue store in New York has begun setting up several large, rectangular structures around the iconic glass-cube entrance. The installations are wrapped in black cloth and white protective film, and observers on X have identified the shapes as likely giant mock-ups of the upcoming iPhone Duo. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman said Apple plans to allocate more than 150 iPhone Duo units to demonstrations and displays at Fifth Avenue, while typical non-flagship locations are expected to receive around 20 units each. The fixtures will include a mechanism to show the foldable opening and a MagSafe stand for side-by-side comparison with conventional iPhones.
Limited Walk-In Availability
In a statement shared with MacRumors, an Apple spokesperson confirmed that walk-in customers will have limited iPhone Duo inventory on launch day. The limited walk-in supply applies to Apple Stores in the United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Mexico, Germany, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Türkiye, and the United Kingdom, with additional unspecified stores in Italy offering walk-in stock. In Macau, walk-in availability will also be limited, while in France, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates customers must reserve a pickup time through Apple’s online store. Apple cited “extraordinary” pre-order demand and a need to manage crowd sizes and prevent scalping as reasons for the restrictions.
Early Fan Queues
Fans began forming a walk-in line at Fifth Avenue on October 22, 2026, roughly 39 hours before the scheduled launch on Friday, October 23. A post by Lexus C. on X reported that the line then consisted of 5–6 people. Similar early gatherings were noted outside Apple’s store in Macau and in Sydney, where an individual arrived on Monday evening to camp out. Organizers warned that early queuing does not guarantee a device given the limited walk-in stock.
Retail Strategy and Expected Demand
Apple’s rollout strategy emphasizes a strong in-store experience at flagship locations while limiting walk-in inventory to control crowds. The company expects the limited supply to sell out quickly on launch day, reflecting the high pre-order volume reported by analysts.
What’s Next
The iPhone Duo is set to go on sale on Friday, October 23. Apple’s online store advises customers to check back on Saturday, October 24 for information on reservation slots for pickup in markets where walk-in purchases are not offered.
