History

Historical Context

In 1972, Don Shula’s Miami Dolphins became the NFL’s first team to finish a season undefeated and untied, winning all 14 regular-season games and three playoff contests for a 17-0 record. The squad led the league in points scored (385) and allowed (171) and featured Larry Csonka’s 1,117 rushing yards. Their perfect season remains a benchmark for modern teams such as the 2024 49ers.
