History

Historical Context

Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game on March 2 1962 stunned the NBA, cementing the Philadelphia Warriors’ 169-147 win as a historic scoring feat. That night the Warriors shot 57 % from the field, converting 36 of 63 attempts, while the Lakers, then at the Forum, posted a 122-94 victory. In 2025-26 the Lakers logged Walker Kessler’s 12-for-12 shooting, the first perfect night since Chamberlain’s 1969 record, and Lendeborg’s technical foul drew Steve Kerr’s comment. These parallels reinforce the Lakers’ tradition of record-setting performances shaping media narratives and prompting strategic adjustments for future campaigns in the NBA.
