Captain Shreyas Iyer said the squad is getting less sleep after back-to-back series and extensive travel.

History

Historical Context

When India won the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 in 2007, it proved the format could dominate international cricket calendars for future tournaments. The 2007 event featured 12 teams, awarded $2.5 million prize money, and spurred the BCCI to launch the 2008 Indian Premier League. In 2026, India contested 21 T20Is after a packed IPL season, with captain Shreyas Iyer and returnee Bhuvneshwar Kumar coping with relentless travel. Mirroring the 2007 workload concerns, New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner warned of cold, windy Christchurch pitches, prompting boards to reassess series scheduling for player health.
