History

Historical Context

The 1972 Noise Control Act, signed by President Nixon, gave the EPA $30 million to launch twelve pilot noise-abatement projects by 1975 and spurred state-level ordinances after federal funding ended in 1981. Decades later, Salt Lake County Health Department’s four complaints against Aligned Data Centers echo the Act’s legacy, prompting possible re-application of its decibel standards.
