History

Historical Context

The 1984 anti-Sikh riots erupted after Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s 31 October assassination, following Operation Blue Star in June, killing an official 3,350 Sikhs nationwide. Congress-linked mobs and Delhi police failed to stop the violence, deepening Sikh trauma. That legacy resurfaces as Delhi denies singer Diljit Dosanjh a concert permit, prompting MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney to cite the November 1 anniversary and AAP’s Saurabh Bharadwaj to demand transparent policing.
