History

Historical Context

On April 20 1999, seniors Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 13 students and a teacher at Columbine High School, injuring 20 others. The massacre sparked nationwide school-security reforms and prompted the FBI and local police to adopt on-site response tactics now applied to incidents like today’s Bend shooting. As of June 2025, more than 70 copycat attacks have been linked to Columbine’s legacy.
