American Express Expands Platinum Card Benefits to Include Airbnb Luxe Stays and Experiences

By Drooid · · How we work

Core Change: Airbnb Listings Added to Amex Travel Platform

Starting October 22, 2026, American Express Travel (AmexTravel.com) began offering more than 1 million Airbnb listings worldwide. Cardholders connect their American Express and Airbnb accounts, initiate the search on AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel app, and complete the reservation directly through Airbnb. All subsequent communications, changes, or cancellations are handled through Airbnb’s platform.

Expanded Lodging Credit to Airbnb Luxe

American Express renamed its up-to-$600 annual hotel credit to the Lodging Credit and now allows the credit to be applied to eligible prepaid Airbnb Luxe stays of at least two nights booked via AmexTravel.com. The credit remains split into two semi-annual portions of up to $300 each (January – June and July – December).

As of January 1, 2027, the same two-night minimum will also apply to Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings, aligning the requirement across Fine Hotels + Resorts, The Hotel Collection, and Airbnb Luxe.

New $250 Airbnb Experiences Statement Credit

When a Platinum or Business Platinum cardholder completes a qualifying Airbnb Luxe reservation, they unlock an additional up-to-$250 annual statement credit for Airbnb Experiences. The credit can be used for any eligible Experience purchased after the Luxe booking is confirmed and before the end of that calendar year, regardless of the Experience’s location or timing.

Points Earnings on Airbnb Bookings

  • 5 points per $1 spent on prepaid Airbnb bookings for Platinum and Business Platinum cardholders (both Luxe and non-Luxe properties).
  • 3 points per $1 for American Express Classic Green cardholders (no new applicants).
  • 2 points per $1 for all other eligible American Express cards.

Data & Statistics

  • Over 1 million Airbnb listings are now searchable through AmexTravel.com.
  • A sample two-night Airbnb Luxe stay in Gatlinburg, Tennessee listed at $874 could be reduced to $574 after applying a $300 semi-annual credit.
  • The $250 Experiences credit can offset activities ranging from $10-$20 up to several hundred dollars, covering options such as paddleboarding, airboat rides, sunset cruises, and cultural tours.

Conflicting Reports & Gaps

All sources agree on the credit amounts, eligibility criteria, and the dates of implementation; no contradictory figures were reported. However, the specific inventory of Airbnb Luxe properties that qualify for the Lodging Credit has not been disclosed, leaving uncertainty about the breadth of eligible options.

What’s Next

  • January 1, 2027: The two-night minimum requirement will apply to Fine Hotels + Resorts, The Hotel Collection, and Airbnb Luxe bookings for the Lodging Credit.
  • Cardholders with an unused $300 credit before that date may still apply it to a one-night Fine Hotels + Resorts stay, but cannot use the credit for a one-night Airbnb Luxe reservation.

These changes expand the ways Platinum members can apply existing statement credits while introducing new constraints that may require revised travel-booking strategies.
