History

Historical Context

After the New Deal’s failed 1933 wage provisions and the Supreme Court’s 1935 Schechter decision, the 1937 West Coast Hotel ruling cleared the way for Roosevelt’s 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act, which set a uniform $0.25 minimum wage. Today Netflix’s teen comedy *Minimum Wage* starring Grace Reiter and Randall Park revives that New Deal-era struggle for fair pay.
