History

Historical Context

Operation Ore, launched in 2002, exposed a massive network of child-pornography distribution across the United Kingdom, leading to over 13,000 arrests. The Home Office reported that investigators seized more than 2 million illicit images, while the National Crime Agency later identified 1,500 repeat offenders. Similarly, the 2026 trial of Nathan Owens, who staged a suicide and kept doctored images of his stepdaughter, echoes manipulation uncovered in Operation Ore. The legacy of Operation Ore urges courts to prioritize digital forensic evidence, prompting stricter sentencing guidelines for child-exploitation offenders like Owens.
