History

Historical Context

The October 2025 Israeli air raids in Gaza echo the three-week Operation Cast Lead (27 Dec 2008-18 Jan 2009), when the IDF’s bombardment killed about 1,400 Palestinians, including many children, and destroyed tens of thousands of homes. Both campaigns followed the 2007 blockade imposed after Hamas seized Gaza, and have again drawn diplomatic pressure from the United States, Egypt and the EU.
