Fitzpatrick Apologizes

Ryan Fitzpatrick said he wishes he could retract his “disrespectful to the quarterback position” comment about Bo Nix.
He apologized for the phrasing on his “Fitz & Whit” podcast while still criticizing Nix’s competitiveness.
Former Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib rebuked Fitzpatrick, citing his 17-year, nine-team playing career.
Fitzpatrick responded with a humorous video pretending to call Talib, saying Fitzpatrick and Talib had “worked through our differences.”

History

Historical Context

After John Elway retired on May 2 1999, the Broncos handed third-round pick Brian Griese the quarterback reins; the team fell to a 6-10 record—the worst for a defending champion—and faced the league’s toughest schedule. That abrupt post-title decline mirrors today’s 2026 debate over Bo Nix’s 6.3 yards per target, sparking criticism from former players.
