History

Historical Context

When the Premier League launched its official Fantasy game in 2002, the platform quickly attracted millions of participants worldwide. By 2005, the Fantasy Premier League, managed by the Premier League and partnered with Sky Sports, recorded 2.5 million registered users and generated £3 million in sponsorship revenue. Today's Gameweek Eight deadline on 23 October mirrors the early-season deadline structure that first guided players like Signe Gaupset, Victoria Pelova, and Omar Marmoush in selecting squads. The legacy of that deadline-driven model has entrenched data-driven transfers, making fantasy football a £150 million annual revenue stream and deepening fan engagement with the Premier League.
