History

Historical Context

In 2015 the Supreme Court of India, in a two-judge bench headed by Justice Jasti Chelameswar, struck down Section 66A of the IT Act as unconstitutional, citing the Shreya Singhal PIL and limiting penalties to three years’ imprisonment and a INR5,000 fine. The decision now guides Delhi Police as they arrest influencer Amir Shokeen for racial slurs and probe anti-government posters.
