History

Historical Context

In 1961-62, Wilt Chamberlain averaged a league-record 50.4 points per game for the Philadelphia Warriors, a scoring level that still defines historic dominance. Over six decades later, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander extended a 141-game 20-point streak until March 30, 2025, when coach Mark Daigneault opted for a self-substitution. The contrast shows modern teams prioritize strategy over individual milestones.
