Milwaukee's bullpen posted the second-best regular-season ERA, trailing only the Yankees.
Rays' ace Shane McClanahan is sidelined, prompting Tampa Bay to rely on opening-pitcher experiments.

History

Historical Context

In 2004, the Boston Red Sox shattered an 86-year championship drought by winning the World Series against the New York Yankees. MLB noted the Red Sox logged 105 regular-season wins, the most since the 1998 Yankees, and swept the series at Fenway Park in four games. That breakthrough mirrors Tampa Bay’s 2024 first title, where the Rays beat 1.1% odds and rely on a small-ball core like the 2004 Red Sox. The Red Sox triumph demonstrated that long-standing franchises can overturn historic curses, suggesting the Rays’ name change may cement a new era of sustained success.
