History

Historical Context

In December 2012 THQ, the Agoura Hills publisher founded in 1990, filed Chapter 11 after its stock fell and it faced $250 million in long-term debt. The court-approved auction in January 2013 sold franchises such as WWE to Take-Two Interactive and THQ Montreal to Ubisoft. These sales reshaped the industry, showing how financial distress can transfer beloved IPs to new owners.
