The Shooting and Arrests
On July 2, a drive-by shooting struck a home in the 2400 block of Rockcliff Road, Gresham Park, an unincorporated area southeast of Atlanta. The attack killed 13-year-old Demarcus Shirley and 45-year-old Chauncey Newman; a dog also died in the gunfire. Detectives used video captured by a quadruped security robot—referred to by Undaunted as an “Oppy”—to identify and apprehend two suspects. Keyshun Webb, 21, and an unnamed 16-year-old were arrested shortly after the incident. Webb faces two murder counts, eight aggravated-assault-with-a-weapon counts, aggravated cruelty to an animal, and two alleged violations of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.
Company Background and Deployment
Undaunted, an Atlanta-based startup founded in January 2025, markets the robots as remotely operated security units that combine live video, two-way audio and human oversight from a “Mission Control Center” in the Philippines. The firm announced on October 21 that it had deployed more than 100 robots across metro Atlanta, claiming the fleet is the largest active robotic-security operation in the United States. Approximately 70 % of client sites are apartment communities; the remainder are commercial properties. Undaunted’s base package costs $40,000 per year for eight-hour daily coverage, which the founder says is “half the price” of traditional guard contracts that can exceed $90,000 annually.
