History

Historical Context

The coordinated November 13 2015 attacks in Paris and Saint-Denis killed 130 people and led President François Hollande to declare a three-month state of emergency, activating thousands of police and soldiers. That emergency set a precedent for Interior Minister Laurent Nunez’s current deployment of tens of thousands of security forces and curfews, showing France’s continued reliance on sweeping measures after terrorism.
