History

Historical Context

The 2005 French riots erupted after two teenagers, Bouna Traoré and Zyed Benna, died in an electrical substation in Clichy-sous-Bois, prompting Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy to order a massive police deployment, record over 2 700 arrests and see more than 8 000 vehicles burned. The 2024 postponement of PSG’s match, ordered by Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, mirrors that same swift security response to suburban unrest.
