History

Historical Context

After apartheid ended, South Africa rejoined international cricket in 1992, playing its first post-boycott Test against the West Indies with ten debutants. That series marked the nation’s return after a 22-year suspension. In 2024, Temba Bavuma and Marco Jansen’s 183-run eighth-wicket stand exceeded the previous South African lower-order best from the 1992 readmission series, underscoring South Africa’s ongoing Test resurgence.
